ICC Imagetec is a Tasmanian business supporting the fine arts and photography industry through a range of professional products and services. Our aim is to provide the best inkjet printing available in Tasmania and as good as anything you will find in the country. We are not motivated by the urge to sell products and only supply hardware and papers that we use ourselves. Our reason to exist is to make beautiful images and to help others do the same. ICC Imagetec has relocated to 2 Goulburn Street, Hobart.

We have moved our printing facility and main office to a new location in the Hobart CBD. We are now co-located with a quality framing business called ArtPoster who specialise in all custom framing and canvas stretching work. This offers a convenient location to have all your framing and printing needs met. We have a wide range of quality inkjet papers from all the major manufacturers, Epson printers and inks, calibration equipment and Eizo monitors on display. Please feel free to drop in and see the new setup and to meet the staff.

New EIZO CG275W $3899 inc GST and price drops in other CG and SX models

EIZO have just released a new self calibrating 27" widescreen graphics monitor with a built in colorimeter. The measuring device swings down from the top of the screen and can be set up to calibrrate at a set time each week, month or after a set number of hours of use. It has an IPS panel for superior viewing angles, DUE for uniform brightness across the entire 2560x1440 viewing area, 98% of the Adobe RGB colour space and is suitable for video editing as well as still work.

EIZO have also dropped prices on certain products in their lineup due to changes in the YEN. Take advantage of this by upgrading you monitor now.

An entry level special is the 22" high resolution 1920x1200 S2243-PX which includes the EasyPix 2 calibration kit (software, sensor and hood) for $1175. Fantastic value.

There is something to suit any budget with quality superior to anything you will get from any of the other major manufacturers. The CG223W  provides great value at $1850 but the SX2262W is a great medium level 22" wide screen with 95% coverage of the Adobe RGB colour space for $1350. It has a resolution of 1920x1200 and a 16bit LUT and DUE. Add a Easypix 2 for $220 and you have a near CG quality hardware calibrated display.

If you are looking at upgrading your monitor and are tempted by a cheap $400 wide screen, think carefully about how long it will last, how accurate it will be and can you rely on it to show you your image with exactly the same fidelity in three years as it does today. Your monitor is now the window to your digital images and any investment you make here will be invaluable.

Custom Profiles

ICC Imagetec is a provider of custom ICC Print Profiles. Although based in Tasmania our services are available to Interstate customers. We offer either an onsite profiling service or profiles by mail order. Our profiles are made using X-Rite i1 Profiler software and a new Barbieri LFP Spectrophotometer. This is the highest quality instrument for measuring printer test charts available in Australia. Italian made, it is a precision robot able to utilise UV cut filters to account for optical brighteners found in many "bright white" papers. We also use a polarising filter to subtract flare, providing much more open shadow tones. We are capable of profiling both RGB and CMYK systems but specialise in RGB Inkjet profiling.

We wil provide a free custom profile with the purchase of any of our printers.

Inkjet Printing

We have been running the  Epson 9900 44" wide printer for over a year and have added a 4900 17" to our lineup. We have also swapped over to running our machines via a RIP (raster image processor) called Megarip by Serendipity Software. This will allow us to streamilne our print processes and provide even greater accuracy in our profiles. Our profiles are now made using  the Barbieri LFP spectrophotometer with a polarising filter to achieve extra wide gamut and shadow separation.

We print only with Pigment based inkjet machines from quality manufacturers Epson and Hewlett Packard. The stocks available include basic papers for gloss or lustre as well as high specification archival inkjet rag papers from quality manufacturers like Hahnemuhle, Museo, Harman and Ilford.

Prints from these machines exhibit exceptional sharpness, colour gamut and longevity. Properly framed and displayed some of these stocks are rated to last between 100-300 years. Compared to a standard chromogenic print these prints will last longer, have a deeper D-max and a wider gamut. Inkjet is incredibly versatile in the range of media that can be imaged on. We print a large amount of canvas and have even printed on timber veneers and handmade papers.

Display Calibrators

 

It is vitally important in any imaging workflow to view your images in a calibrated environment. This ensures that the image you are viewing from session to session is consistent and conforms to an industry accepted standard. It will also ensure that the image you are viewing will be as close as possible to the same image viewed on another calibrated system.

Datacolor have just released the Spyder 3 Express at $150 inc GST. This is the best calibration tool to purchase with a new EIZO CG model as it has the same instrument as the higher priced pro and elite models but you can use it with the ColorNavigator software bundled with the EIZO and save $240.

We carry the Datacolor Spyder and i1 Display2 calibration systems, both of which team really well with the EIZO monitors and are supported by EIZO's ColorNavigator calibration software.

Xrite Color Checker Passport. $184 inc GST

This version of the colour checker has been newly developed by Xrite to be a portable and durable version of the clasic color checker card. This product goes a lot further by providing a white balance card and software to produce "DNG profiles" for raw camera workflows. Instead of being tethered to Adobe or your camera manufacturer for rendering your files, you can create custom raw camera profiles.

inkAid

We are now reselling inkAid. This product allows you to turn any substrate that will fit through your printer into an inkjet printable media. inkAid is a brush on inkjet receiving precoat that binds the ink to the substrate to preserve image sharpness and colour saturation while still preserving the character of your paper or substrate.

DroboFS Storage Robot - price reduction $899 inc GST

 

The Drobo is a digital media storage solution which takes the headaches out of secure storage. It provides completely automated RAID storage which protects your data from loss by spreading it across multiple disks. In the event of a disk failure, simply insert a replacement drive and Drobo rebuilds the disk. It is also a scalable data solution so you can add storage as you need it rather than buying masses of storage up front.
